Wildlife, Culture, and Community — On Their Terms
In Laikipia, wildlife conservation and community life are not in tension — they are the same story. Through our partnership with the Laikipia Conservancies Association, we co-create tourism experiences with community-owned conservancies, placing the community at the centre of every visit — as guides, storytellers, hosts, and owners or co-owners of the tourism experiences they share.
What's Included
- Wildlife tracking guided by community members who have lived alongside and protected these animals for generations — deep, inherited knowledge, not outsourced rangers.
- Cultural experiences co-created with conservancy communities — oral history, traditional craft, food, and ceremony shared on community terms.
- Community-led safaris across Laikipia’s open savannah, riverine forest, and highland plateau — home to elephant, lion, wild dog, reticulated giraffe, and more.
- Engagement with active conservation programmes and community stewardship work.
Why Laikipia Is Different
The conservancies here are owned and managed by the people who have always lived here. When you visit through Steri Tours, a significant share of every shilling spent flows directly to the community. Your presence contributes directly to the financial sustainability of conservation and the livelihoods of the families protecting it.
